Abstract:

Verification and the subsequent application of a numerical model requires sufficient field data to demonstrate that the model is reproducing the existing hydrodynamics of the modeled system. The US Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station and the Philadelphia District have recently concluded a detailed data collection program to provide these data on the Delaware Bay - C&D Canal - upper Chesapeake Bay system. The data collection program was initiated in October 1992 and ran through October 1993. Both long-term (12 months) and short-term (2 weeks) data were collected at the proposed model boundaries as well as at various interior stations. These data consist of water surface elevations, currents, salinity, and temperature.
