Abstract:

The paper presents the application of the Finite Element Surface Modeling System: Two Dimensional Flow in a Horizontal Plane (FESEMS-2DH) computer program in the Attaway road bridge repair project. The application of the program is due to the time constraints and site characteristics associated with the project. FESEMS-2DH has only been used for approximately thirty practical applications in the United States and half of these have been performed by Parsons Brinckerhoff. The use of two dimensional models versus one dimensional models depends largely on each specific project but for the case of the Attaway Road Bridge repair project, a two dimensional model provided the reliable results in a timely fashion.
