Abstract:

A model was developed for analyzing the movement of colloidal clay particles in laboratory soil columns. The physical mechanisms of detachment of particles from the soil matrix, their subsequent transportation in the pore water, and entrapment or clogging were included in the model. The performance of the model was evaluated by comparisons with laboratory experiments on sand-kaolinite mixtures. Sensitivity analysis was conducted for key model parameters.
