Abstract:

We discuss several computer-based environments to support learning through inquiry, called microworlds, including two focused on steam power plant operation and electronic troubleshooting. As we discuss the microworlds we mention several learning principles that underpin the different systems and that account for their success, and for the strength of microworlds in general as tools for acquiring knowledge.
