Abstract:

The Sweetwater Authority hopes to be less dependent on imported supplies in water-short years, and has a goal of developing several alternative sources, including local runoff, brackish groundwater, reclaimed water and possibly seawater desalination. An urban runoff diversion system is progressing into the second phase of development. Groundwater desalination is economically viable within 2 years. Other sources may become viable in the future. The Authority's available supplies are becoming beneficial sources rather than problems.
