Abstract:

The historic significance and unique architectural character of Washington National and Washington Dulles International Airports have presented the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority with many historic preservation challenges. This paper will present a short summary of the Federal/state historic preservation process, and then discuss the case study of one airport preservation program to illustrate critical steps in this process.
