Abstract:

The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) of the National Weather Service (NWS), operates a large number of buoy and fixed-platform environmental data reporting stations in geographical areas of interest to the USA. Each hour meteorology and oceanographic data are acquired, transmitted to shore via the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES), and distributed to users. Among the data reported from these stations are ocean wave measurements. This paper gives an overview of present and future plans regarding hardware and software for acquisition and distribution of this data.
