Abstract:

With the increase of economic activities on the oceans and seas, the observation of marine phenomena and forecast services become more and more significant. The Central Weather Bureau plans to establish a Marine Observation and Prediction Center in the near future. The proposal has been approved recently from the Executive Yuan. The center will take charge of the integrated planning of wave, tide, and data buoy observing stations; establish a marine phenomena databank and service net; and standardize data formats and develop a marine forecasting system. The forecasts of storm surges, tides, and oceans waves will become routinely scheduled work to meet the needs of economic activities over the oceans and seas and the development of marine resources.
