Abstract:

The objective of this study is to establish the strength, stiffness, and transverse load distribution factors of stressed timber T-, Bulk T-, and Box-beam bridge systems. To achieve the objective, bridge systems of different deck thicknesses, stringer sizes and spacings, and prestress levels were tested under static loads at the midspan. The experimental data were analyzed and compared with the results from different theoretical models developed at West Virginia University and also the finite element method. Good correlations were found between the laboratory experimental results, field bridge test results, and theoretical results.
