Abstract:

The paper is focused on the analysis of corroded steel chimneys. Cylindrical steel plates are exposed to thermal and chemical effects. The study is based on the results of extensive measurements performed on a typical steel chimney. Corrosion patterns are observed and plotted as a function of elevation and direction. Joints with stiffeners are particularly vulnerable to corrosion damage.
