Abstract:

This paper describes how cable-stay forces were indirectly quantified through the use of simple field measurements. A system was developed and delivered to the contractor and used to make force measurements in stay cables used for supporting cantilevered legs of a large pre-cast segmental arch structure as it was constructed. The approach verified analytical predictions and confirmed unanticipated structural behavior of two of the cantilevered arch legs.
