Space Station Microgravity Analysis and Assessment

Abstract:

The space station will be a platform for microgravity research. For superior microgravity science, the experiment locations must experience very little acceleration in the quasi-steady (f<0.01 Hz), structural dynamic (0.01 Hz?f<50 Hz), and vibroacoustic (50 Hz?f<300 Hz) frequency ranges. This paper presents the methods that were developed for evaluation of the microgravity environment in each of these frequency ranges. Resulting acceleration levels at the experiment locations due to disturbances were computed and assessed against the microgravity acceleration requirement curve. An accurate assessment of the dynamic microgravity environment allows the identification of offending sources which cause exceedances of the microgravity requirement.
