Abstract:

This paper outlines the `Moving Walkways,' a new, continuous transportation system that the City of Yokohama plans to build as the ideal local transportation for `Minato Mirai 21.' The Minato Mirai 21 project is a new urban-development scheme that will integrate the City of Yokohama's business functions on an advanced level, expanding the city as a commercial nucleus within the greater Tokyo metropolitan area. To support this project, wide-area transportation and local-transportation plans have been devised that will dramatically raise service standards. The project will provide visitors with smooth and comfortable access from railways - the primary mode of public transportation - to the different parts of the project. The transportation network includes Moving Walkways. Also being considered are Moving Walkways With Speed Control and AGT.
