Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Utilization of Industrial By-Products for Construction Materials

Abstract:

A new research aimed at producing high strength masonry bricks to be bonded with several types of joint materials other than conventional cement mortar, is introduced in this paper. This research features the utilization of a by-product of the phosphate industry, phosphogypsum, in combination with portland cement and sand (crushed lime stone) by the use of high-pressure static compaction. Bricks dimensioning 203X95X51 mm (8X3.75X2 in.) are manufactured merely by the use of a bench model brick press developed especially for this project, applying a pressure of 83 MPa (12,000 psi).
