Abstract:

Nondestructive testing (NDT) methods are increasingly being used to assess the condition of structural concrete. The paper discusses applications of NDT methods for forensic investigation of old to new structures with problems, and for quality assurance of concrete repairs. The NDT method methods presented herein all involve the use of stress waves and are known as the Impact Echo, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity and Spectral Analysis of Surface Waves methods. Included are overviews of the methods and the principles behind them, as well as some case history examples to illustrate their use in repair/ rehabilitation investigations.
