Abstract:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues regulations and advisories for commercial airlines which establish the basis of the aviation maintenance and inspection programs. Commercial airline trade groups, such as the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) also provide guidelines and assistance to operators for developing and conducting maintenance programs. Airplane and engine manufacturers provide their customers with basic requirements for maintenance of their equipment and provide training and assistance to keep the airplane operator up-to-date. Airlines provide continuous feedback to the builders concerning problems and manufacturers submit suggested improvements to the airlines for review. Commercial airlines, airplane and equipment manufacturers, industry trade organizations and regulatory agencies continually work together to develop, implement and upgrade the aviation maintenance programs and equipment in order to insure that the most effective procedures are being used and that the flying public is served with the safest aircraft systems and service possible.
