Abstract:

The moving average method was applied to daily time series of water quality and flow data obtained from a stream gaging station affected by the 1988 drought in the midwest of the United States. Based on results of moving average plots, it shows that water quality variables, including maximum and minimum pH, maximum specific conductance, minimum dissolved oxygen, and maximum water temperature, were strongly affected by low flows during periods of the 1988 drought.
