Abstract:

The potential impacts and responses of sea-level rise on the coastline of Senegal are analyzed with an emphasis on regional distribution. Impacts include loss of land and the economic value of structures. The cost of traditional responses (i.e., seawall construction and beach nourishment) is estimated and other responses (i.e. coastal management and retreat) are considered. A one-meter rise in sea level could permanently flood over 6,000 km2 of land, most of which is wetlands.
