Water Quality of the Wadden Sea

by F. de Jong, Common Wadden Sea Secretarial, Wilhelmshaven, Germany,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastlines of the Southern North Sea

Abstract:

A brief overview will be given of the different sources of input to the Wadden Sea (rivers, land run-off, atmosphere, dumping). The specific problems encountered in comparing the different sources will be addressed (i.e. computation of riverine loads, estimation of atmospheric inputs). For some substances temporal trends in riverine inputs will be presented. Trends in inputs will be compared to trends in concentrations of nutrients and metals for the period 1980-1990. An evaluation of 10 year environmental monitoring on the above presented information will be given.
