Abstract:

Numerous tide gouges have been recording data along the coastlines of the southern North Sea for more than a century, at Amsterdam even since 1700. Every tide gauge locality has its own unique sea level history; the data are more or less influenced by several factors. Some examples of how these factors affect the trend analysis of water levels (high, low, mean) are presented. Statistical aspects with relation to predictions of the future water level trend are addressed.
