Part of: Coastlines of the Southern North Sea

Abstract:

The paper gives a inventory of mathematical model concepts for coastal morphological applications, from sophisticated short-term process models based on first physical principles, via process-based medium-term morphodynamic models, to semi-empirical long-term dynamic models and descriptions of the equilibrium state of coastal morphological systems. Next, it briefly outlines a number of applications to coastal problems in the southern North Sea, which cover the whole range of model types. Finally, the perceptives of the integration of morphodynamic models into CZM-tools are discussed.
