Abstract:

In this paper, an algorithm is developed for the calculation of the vibration mode of a preformed thin plate. The principal governing equations are derived by using the large-deflection theory and the equilibrium condition of the plate. With proper simplification and linearization, the equation leads to a special type of eigenvalue problem which can be solved by means of a weighted residual method. The influence of preform on the vibration mode is illustrated by a hinge supported rectangular thin plate. The computational results reveal the interesting phenomenon that the natural frequencies are moving upward when the plate is preformed into the shape of a specific mode of vibration.
