Abstract:

Revising, tracking and storing large format engineering drawings has always been an expensive and complex problem for large industries. The management problem became much more complex with the rise computer-aided design. Following the success of AutoCAD, where users determined system requirements on PCs with help of local resellers another model for proliferating document management systems emerged. Together, ESP and ViewBase provide the basis for the user to build his own document management system using components he may already own. In addition, CAD Overlay GS is being used by civil engineers to bring aerial photographs or satellite images into AutoCAD as a background display. Vector maps are easily correlated with the grayscale raster image and updated. The wealth of information in grayscale raster images continues to generate new applications for CAD Overlay GS in civil engineering and many other disciplines.
