Abstract:

In the last five years, developments in creating and managing engineering drawings completely, within a computer environment, have been phenomenal. Computer Aided Design continues to make great strides in 2D & 3D design and analysis. A much neglected area is that of integrating existing drawings created outside of any CAD environment and exist in an unintelligent paper or scanned raster format into the powerful vector based systems of the 90's. The Rasterex Engineering Drawing Management System, known as RxEDM, addresses this problem head-on by identifying that mass re-drawing of millions of archived drawings - even with computer assistance - in many cases, is prohibitively expensive. RxEDM provides a way of intelligent storing and retrieving drawings so that the conversion process becomes part of the overall day to day work of the drawing office rather than an expensive and dedicated task.
