Abstract:

Design practice of the preloading method, which is one of the ground improvement techniques, applied for the hydraulic fill area includes quite complicated problems, especially when draining facilities such as sand drain piles are to be considered. It is believed that such complicated problems can be easily handled once the expert system is developed. CLIPS is used as the expert system tool, which is the C language version of LISP-like shell. The design process includes the determination of the necessity of ground improvement technique application, the magnitude of the preload needed versus the preloading period, stability check under the preload, spacing and dimensions of draining facilities and the consolidation period, and more.
