Abstract:

Recently, there has been an increased awareness in the AEC firms toward Total Quality Management (TQM). Many AEC firms and the public sector started to look seriously at TQM. The reason for this varies from external pressures, such as being competitive and liability insurance costs, to demand from clients who request the implementation of TQM. The objective of this document is to outline some computer-related issues to consider that will lead to a process of installing a cost effective TQM system for information technology. The need for TQM is increasing, and according to W.H. Hayden (1992) firms without TQM will be noncompetitive within the next five to ten years. Total Quality Management for information technology is one aspect in the continuous commitment to quality in all dimensions in the organization. It provides methods for assuring that information technology maintains its effectiveness, competitiveness and client satisfaction.
