Abstract:

To improve productivity in the construction industry; much research and development is being done - on CAD systems, construction management systems, robotics, computer graphics, etc. Many believe that the construction industry can be revamped by integrating these systems with the CIC system. This paper describes current problems in CIC development and focuses on schemes for preparing and skillfully utilizing constructor's production information in Japan's construction industry. Building up the production information database (including 'production design' and 'master production drawings') that constructors have started to adopt will be based on the current status and future trends of the construction industry. Production information will be performed through the cooperation of sub-contractors (led by the constructor) and the building up of a system that facilitates a smooth supply of basic information to these sub-contractors.
