Abstract:

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) provide a method for humans to interact with a computer to learn about a particular topic. Usually, the ITS system has as part of its components a knowledge-based system (KBS). The development of engineering ITSs requires that a user can obtain explanations of concepts and clarification of ideas and questions posed by the software. This paper presents an explanation facility which has been developed to perform these activities in an engineering ITS.
