Abstract:

Casks of type CASTOR are used for transport and storage of spent LWR fuel assemblies. The purpose of the present work is the verification of shielding design analysis methods by application of these methods to casks for which actual dose rate measurements are available. Numerous such measurements are performed for CASTOR casks prior to transportation and storage. In this paper features peculiar to CASTOR cask shielding are addressed, i.e., modelling of source, moderator rods and thermal fins. The analysis was performed with the point - kernel code QAD-CGGP and the 1d transport code ANISN.
