Abstract:

During the preliminary design phase of the project, a study was conducted to develop concepts for routing embedded piping and conduit between the remote cells and the service corridors of the Vitrification Building at the Hanford Waste Vitrification Plant (HWVP). Routings were developed for each of the major remote cells using the Ganged Embed Plate (GEP) concept developed during Advanced Conceptual Design phase of the project. The GEP concept provides a method to install large numbers of embeds and nozzles for a fraction of the costs of conventional installation and fabrication conventions. With one module, a contractor can install 40 or more lines to machine shop tolerances with no more effort than installing a standard embedded module.
