Abstract:

Authors have developed a new pre-lining method (PASS method) in which thin archshell lining is formed ahead of the tunnel face before the excavation to reinforce the ground. This method was applied to Katsutadai railway tunnel of 10 m in diameter. The excavation was done through a diluvial sand with 7 m overburden. As a result, the execution speed was improved and the total surface settlement and the shotcrete stress was relatively small.
