Abstract:

There are many issues which affect the relationships between structural engineers and on the other, the owner clients. This paper discusses some of those issues from the point of view of an independent professional consulting structural engineer. Initially, this paper limits its considerations to the issues which bear upon the professional independent structural sub-consultant. This paper addresses the following aspects: whether the interests of the architect or owner are the same; if both parties understand where their interests really lie; who appoints the engineer, pays him, sues him if something goes wrong.
