Abstract:

This paper describes a software system that can effectively be used in bridge management and planning. The system integrates several modules each capable of conducting a specific task needed for bridge evaluation and rating. The system is installed on a PC that can either be used in the field or office. Various types of analyses and evaluations can be performed through a main menu and several sub menus. Options currently available on the system are (i) bridge structural analysis using the code-recommended load, (ii) data management - the software keeps an inventory of bridge inspection results and updates them periodically as new results become available, (iii) bridge analytical rating using the code-recommended procedures, (iv) bridge classification by age, type of structure and type of deficiency common to the structure, (v) bridge evaluation using ratings assigned by bridge engineers or obtained through analytical calculations, and (vi) estimation of bridge condition based on ratings available for other bridges with similar or the same conditions. Furthermore, the system is capable of producing summary reports on the condition of a given bridge.
