Abstract:

This paper presents the approach and findings of a study sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The study analyzed running times of a state-sponsored 403(b) passenger train under alternative operating and physical conditions. The study applied a microcomputer-based software train-performance simulator (TPS) as a tool to develop and analyze the base and alternative operating models. Simulation models were builtfrom data compiled from railroad and state sources.
