Abstract:

Sprayed concrete was adopted extensively as one element of both temporary and permanent rock support during the construction of the 1800 MW Dinorwig underground power station in North Wales. The works include 16 km of tunnels and shafts. Construction started in 1974 and the Station was commissioned in 1981. A recent inspection was carried out of the permanent sprayed concrete linings and the paper presents some background data on these as well as some notes on the results of the inspection.
