Abstract:

Most of the experimental research concerning the stability of coastal structures is focused on normal wave incidence. However, many of these structures are subject to waves which run predominantly parallel to their longitudinal axis. That is the case, for instance, with certain types of coastal works, such as groynes or jetties. At present, there is a lack of information about the wave forces exerted on the structure, as well as its response under to oblique wave action. The purpose of this study was to analyze the stability of rubble-mound groynes under very oblique wave conditions. Damage to the cover layer, along both sides of the groyne, was analyzed in order to achieve optimum design criteria.
