Abstract:

Excessive nutrient leaching to groundwater in agricultural watersheds has initiated research to develop control systems. Loading of nutrients are enhanced during the non-growing season and when animals manures are land applied. This paper presents tillage-manure control options and their likely effectiveness as an element of current agricultural systems. Using a combination of rate, timing and application method, losses of soluble nutrients to subsurface flow and groundwater can be decreased.
