Abstract:

The Bureau of Reclamation manages more than 8 million acres of land in the 17 Western States and is required to periodically report on the status of the lands under its jurisdiction. A central land Information System was developed to automate the land resources database without changing Reclamation's concept of regional management of the land resources. This paper discusses the potential of extending this database to incorporate information needed for operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. The discussion will address the developmental processes and benefits derived for the land resources automated database. A description of the operation and maintenance information that could be added to the database, and expected benefits to operation and maintenance entity will also be discussed.
