Site Traffic Impact Analysis Process: The Developer's Perspective

Abstract:

Site traffic impact analyses are often conducted for private developers by traffic engineering consultants to be reviewed by the local engineering or planning departments of Cities and Counties. This process has been fairly standardized throughout the United States. However, no studies have been conducted to assess how this process is working. Can there be improvements to this process? Are the customers, who are both the private developer and local government, satisified with these products? In this paper, a brief assessment of those questions was conducted by handing out a survey to a number of private developers. This survey (which was a set of subjective questions) was conducted in December 1991 and January 1992. The survey process was a letter and a copy of the questionnaire sent to 18 private developers with offices in the Atlanta area. The letter was followed up with a phone call to attempt to attain an appointment to meet with the developer to conduct a brief interview concerning the questionnaire. Of the 18 questionnaires sent out, 13 responses were received.
