Abstract:

A new nondestructive testing (NDT) device is being developed to detect some precursors to pavement distress. The principle of operation of the device is based upon the generation and detection of stress waves in a layered medium. Several seismic testing techniques are combined. With these methods, eight pavement parameters, including moduli of each layer, are determined. An inductive interpretation approach is then utilized to diagnose distress precursor in specific layers. The theoretical basis for this device is described herein.
