Abstract: A numerical method for solution of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations is developed to study the flow over sand dunes in two-dimensional channels. The method is applied to calculate the flow in an open channel with fixed dune-shaped waves on the bottom and the results compared with experimental data. The effect of an ice cover is then investigated by carrying out similar calculations with covered channels.
