Abstract:

A vertical porous wavemaker sitting in an infinitely long channel of constant depth is studied. The wavemaker performs horizontal oscillatory motion. A simplified analytical approach for thin porous wavemaker and a numerical approach of boundary integrtal method valid for porous wavemaker of any thickness are presented in this study. The validity of the assumption for thin porous wavemaker approach is verified by the numerical solution. However, the numerical solution also shows very different results between thin and thick porous wavemakers. The effect of inertial reactance of porous medium compared to viscous resistance is also discussed in this study.
