Abstract:

A nonisothermal theory of viscoplasticity is formulated for a medium subjected to finite deformation. The basic system of equations consists of the laws of conservation of linear and angular momentum, mechanical constitutive equations, and a heat conduction equation. The coupling of the mechanical and thermal effects occurs through the presence of the temperature in the stress strain relation and in the yield condition and through the presence of the volumetric strain and the irrecoverable work in the heat conduction equation. A finite element version of the equations of this problem has been developed and a method of solution proposed for dynamic problems. Numerical studies of some simple cases of deformation reveal certain qualitative and quantitative aspects of the nonisothermal viscoplasticity.
