Abstract:

The Bonner Bridge across Oregon Inlet was constructed in 1962 and is approaching the end of its service life. Planning for a future crossing must consider natural inlet migration expected over the next 60 years while providing the flexibility to let the channel move within the inlet. The crossing must also be located such that it will not be endangered by barrier island erosion over the next 60 years.
