Abstract:

The Stagecoach RCC dam was constructed using current state-of-the-art knowledge and the geotechnical approach to roller compacted concrete (RCC) mix design. The design was prepared in 1985 and 1986. Construction occurred in 1987 and 1988. The reservoir has been in operation for three years and has provided valuable information about construction techniques versus dam performance. Detailed notes kept during construction of each lift of RCC have been compared with logs of core taken from the dam after construction. This paper presents an evaluation of relationships between the construction conditions such as placement, timing from mixing to final compaction, ambient weather conditions, and structure performance/quality.
