Abstract:

During the past 25 years, the number of registered watercraft tripled to the current number of 17.8 million registered watercraft in the USA. To meet a growing demand for safe waterway access facilities, the States Organization for Boating Access (SOBA) was set6 up at a national boating conference in Detroit, Michigan in 1986. The article outlines SOBA's goals and activitiesIn the arena of recreational boating, SOBA is the major link in a nationwide network of government, industry and the public sharing a common interest in boating access.
