Mexican Marinas?An Investment Opportunity

by Harry L. Nelson, Jr., CEO; Almar Ltd, Rolling Hills Estates, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: World Marina '91

Abstract:

This paper will present an overview of the development of salt water marinas in Mexico. The focus will be on the character of the market, both from a provider of facilities and from a user of those facilities points of view, and considerations related to the construction of marina facilities and their operation. This paper is not concerned with the extensive governmental regulations that apply. That subject is being addressed in a companion paper by my associate, Dr. Alfonse Torres Roqueni. Dr. Torres has been extensively involved with governmental officials concerning the requirements for the development of a modern, state of the art marina. In fact, he has been responsible for the formulation of many policies on this subject. This paper therefore assumes that all governmental requirements will be met. Additional information can also be obtained from Mrs. Tere C. Grossman, president of the Association of Mexican Tourist Marinas and operator of the San Carlos Marina, San Carlos, Mexico.
