Abstract:

The Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves (SASW) method is presented. Various test setups and corresponding data reduction procedures are discussed. Several instrumentation systems have been described and compared with respect to data collection and data reduction capabilities and cost. Transient recorders with integrated microcomputers are favored primarily for their time and cost effectiveness. Use of receiver arrays instead of receiver pairs in SASW testing is suggested because of two reasons. The first reason is that it would enable inversion of the field dispersion curve in soil profiles of irregular stratification. The second reason is that it would increase the overall speed and accuracy of testing.
