Abstract:

The aircraft-based eddy correlation technique was recently used to obtain regional observations of transfer processes of sensible and latent heat as well as carbon dioxide over wetlands in Northern Ontario. The measuring system is described and flux estimates as a function of altitude and distance are presented. Air temperature measurements and carbon dioxide exchange are compared with surface features such as radiative temperatures and greenness indices (IR/R). Data collected during into and down wind runs appear to be an excellent way to determine the areal extent represented by airborne flux measurements and to develop a spectrally-based model for estimating gas transfer.
