Abstract:

Two separate physical models were used to investigate the outflow and inflow into the proposed McCook Reservoir. The proposed reservoir will be located in McCook, Illinois, and will serve the city of Chicago as a temporary storage reservoir for combined sewage and storm water runoff. The influent to the reservoir would be provided by a manifold with 45 outlet ports. As the capacity of a treatment plant permits, the effluent would be pumped from the reservoir through a morning glory intake to the treatment plant. A 1:20.7-scale model study of the proposed morning glory intake and a 1:40-scale model of the manifold outlet were conducted to ensure satisfactory hydraulic performance.
